How do I know if I need a root canal?
Most patients present for treatment with a complaint of pain or discomfort. Throbbing pain, lingering sensitivity to hot or cold foods and swelling or tenderness in the gum tissue are common symptoms. Sensitivity to chewing or to biting often indicates the pulp tissue is already dead and an abscess may be forming. Your dentist will perform tests and take radiographs to locate the offending tooth. Results of these tests will indicate whether an endodontic procedure is needed.
